Players currently on the team

Players on the roster from the most recent tournament the national team played in, The Copa America

Goalkeepers: Fernando Muslera (Lazio, ITA), Juan Castillo (Colo Colo, CHI), Martín Silva (Defensor Sporting, URU).
Defenders: Diego Lugano (Fenerbache, TUR), Diego Godín (Atlético de Madrid, ESP), Mauricio Victorino (Cruzeiro, BRA), Andrés Scotti (Colo Colo, CHI), Maximiliano Pereira (Benfica, POR), Martín Cáceres (Sevilla, ESP), Sebastián Coates (Nacional, URU).
Midfields: Egidio Arévalo Ríos (Botafogo, BRA), Diego Pérez (Bologna, ITA), Sebastián Eguren (Sporting Gijón, ESP), Walter Gargano (Napoli, ITA), Álvaro Pereira (Porto, POR), Nicolás Lodeiro (Ajax, NED), Álvaro González (Lazio, ITA), Cristian Rodríguez (Porto, POR).
Forwards: Diego Forlán (Atlético Madrid, ESP), Luis Suárez (Liverpool, ENG), Edinson Cavani (Napoli, ITA), Abel Hernández (Palermo, ITA), Sebastián Abreu (Botafogo, BRA).

List above also tells you what team each player plays for. As you can see some of the players play for impressive teams such as Athletico Madrid, Liverpool, Napolia, Milano and Fc Porto. In 2009 Diego Forlan came in first with 32 goals in the La Liga, one of the best leagues in the world. Edinson Cavani scored 26 goals last year in Serie A, the third best league in the world. Another player Luis Suarez transferred to Liverpool located in the Barclays Premier League, the best league in the world. Suarez is now considered a top five striker in the league. Many other players on the Uruguay national team are doing equally well on their teams. This shows Uruguay's soccer influence across the global, producing some of the best players in the world. I don' think their is another country with as much talent as Uruguay's National team has.

  1. Your post is very convincing, and after reading it, I would definitely agree that Uruguay's National soccer team is the greatest in the world. One thing I would disagree is that you seem to think Suarez is the best forward on the team, when clearly Forlan is much better overall. I don't know how anyone would pick Suarez over Forlan, and maybe you should revise your opinion.

  3. I am a very big Uruguayan soccer fan as well. I love Uruguay because their young talent and dangerous shooters. And seeing as I saw most of their world cup games I have seen their players a good amount. I do agree with you that Uruguay is one if not the best team in the world. And they should just be getting better over time. However, I noticed that you think suarez is better than Forlan. Which I have to respectfully disagree with. Suarez is very good and may have better speed and dribbling, but Forlan has a much better shot making him deadly from anywhere on the field. Im curios to see what another fan thinks about how they are going to do in the next world cup. I believe they should do very well with the amount of young talent that they have.

  5. I have never gotten into watching soccer before but I have always wondered which team was the best in the world. Is it Uruguay's national team, or is it another team?
